What type of items can you help me repair?

We get asked this alot, and the general rule of thumb is if you can carry it and it’s not alive, we’ll help you take a look. So book in your broken household electricals, clothes, toys, jewellery, furniture, rusty tools and more. Join us to learn how to repair and mend, save money and carbon and be part of a community sharing knowledge, crafts and skills. (Please note that we can’t help with microwaves or e-scooters.)

What does it cost?

We ask everyone that can, to make a donation to help us cover the cost of running the sessions. However we never want money to be a barrier to us helping you repair something, so anything you can do to help is appreciated whether that’s offers to volunteer or spread the word.

Why use a Repair Café?

There are many benefits to repairing rather than replacing:

  • save money – often, a very simple repair is all that is needed to extend the usable and useful life of a product for several months or longer,
  • save carbon – before you even started using your product, a lot of carbon and raw materials were used in it’s creation and transportation (often more than will ever be needed by you using it!). And when it does reach the end of it’s life, more resources and energy are used in recycling it. So the longer your things last, the kinder to the planet you’re being,
  • learn and connect – Repair Cafés bring together a diverse group of people, sharing and learning new skills, along with a good smattering of cakes, cuppas, natter and fun.

Local Repair Business Directory

There are local repair businesses that can repair phones, computers, radios, clothes, bikes and jewellery for you. We have created a map of Portsmouth, with organisations that can help with the repair of small electrical items. We hope to expand this to cover all types of repair in the future – if you’re interested in helping, please do get in touch.
